In the UK, the date of Mother’s Day changes each year. This year, it takes place on Sunday 19th March 2023. Finding a great gift for mum can be tough, so we've pulled together the ultimate gift guide for Mother's Day. Featuring sustainable, eco-friendly and UK made gifts, we update this guide each year to include the latest and greatest gifts for mum on the market. Scroll down to see our picks.
Why does the date of Mother's Day change every year?
Mother's Day began as a church tradition. Mothering Sunday takes place on the fourth Sunday of Lent, three weeks before Easter. With both Lent and Easter dates set by the lunar calendar, the dates for Lent, Easter and therefore Mother's Day changes every year. Ireland, Guernsey, Jersey, Isle of Man and Nigeria celebrate this date for Mother's Day too. Whereas, in America, Australia, Germany, China and Greece, Mother's Day always falls on the second Sunday in May.

Seafoam Jewellery
Is there anything more thoughtful than giving jewellery on Mother’s Day? Especially when we’re gifting from a distance.
We love these incredible hand-crafted pieces from Seafoam Jewellery. Started in lockdown, Rachel Quilliam-Scott launched Seafoam as a sustainable and eco-friendly business that creates timeless jewellery to connect people with the Cornish coast.
All of Seafoam’s seaglass is found by hand on Cornish beaches by Rachel and her family (we love a family business), and we’re pretty obsessed with her pieces. They take the wearer out of lockdown and straight to the coast - where one day we will all meet again. Seafoam Jewellery has already caught the eye of Condé Nast and Tatler, so make sure you place your orders quickly!

Sweet treats from Nummy
We’ve eaten our way through the last three lockdowns and no matter what the adverts say; we have absolutely no problem with that. Want to know why? Because food is delicious and often puts a smile on our faces.
In view of our attempts to bring more vegan habits into our lives, we’re obsessed with these 100% natural, vegan and handmade vegan baked doughnuts from Nummy. These gorgeously presented doughnuts can be sent straight to our Mums. The delicious delicacies are finished with a white chocolate glaze, sweetened with maple syrup and naturally coloured with beetroot powder and finished with pink dried rose petals - dreamy!
Packed in fully biodegradable packaging and free from refined sugar, flour and palm oil - these feel like the perfect gift for Mum’s with a sweet tooth.
Alice & Peg Gift Boxes
All Mum’s need a little bit of calm and help to relax - Mums are very busy people and have the tendency to put other’s needs before their own. So, for Mother’s Day show give the gift of self-care with gifts from Alice and Peg.
Alice & Peg was started by Kayleigh in London in 2018 and is named after the two most generous people she knows (her Nana Alice & Nana Peg). Alice & Peg has a straightforward mission to support independent makers that care about our planet through creating beautifully curated gift boxes.
Cosy Cushions from Tikauo
Tikauo is an independent London-based brand that has an incredibly sustainable ethos behind it - to take the cotton waste and recycle it to create a more practical and sustainable fibre for the future. All of Tikauo’s pieces are made with recycled and sustainable materials and aims to make textiles with lower carbon footprints by limiting power and chemical usage.
Dried flowers from Shropshire Petals
With dried flowers lasting much longer than fresh flowers, requiring less maintenance and versatility for home decor and events, they are a great sustainable option for giving flowers to mum.
Shropshire Petals' British flowers are grown on their fourth generation family farm during the summer months. All their petals and flowers are sustainable, eco-friendly and as nature intended - which means they are dye-free.
Add some flair to the flowers by wrapping a sheet of Curlicue gift wrap with the design mum would love around the bunch.
Commission artwork from Artist Philly
A pet portrait or animal print would make a wonderful gift for mum. We love Artist Philly's UN sustainable goals-led ethos to creativity. We have even partnered with her on our Savannah and Hummingbirds gift wrap designs, so you can get matching wrap for your gift too.
